AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH CARES, INC. REGARDING REIMBURSEMENT FOR HOMELESS SHELTER SERVICES DURING INCLEMENT WINTER WEATHER

WHEREAS, Pursuant to 18 CRR-NY 304.1, homeless individuals in Albany County must be protected from inclement weather when the temperatures decrease to 32 degrees and below and offered shelter to avoid hypothermia, serious injury and death, and
WHEREAS, Cares, Inc. has entered into an agreement with New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to support the efforts of Albany County Department of Social Services regarding the provision of shelter services for homeless individuals during inclement weather, and
WHEREAS, The Commissioner of the Department of Social Services has requested authorization to enter into an agreement with Cares, Inc. regarding reimbursement for expenses incurred for Code Blue motel housing and shelter services for individuals who would not have been otherwise eligible for temporary housing assistance if not for Code Blue in the amount of $131,713 for a term commencing October 1, 2020 and ending September 30, 2021, and
WHEREAS, Capital Area Council of Churches operates a 19 bed seasonal Code Blue shelter facility which serves and protects homeless individuals from inclement winter weather when temperatures decrease to 32 degrees and below, now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, By the Albany County Legislature that the County Executive is authorized to enter into an agreement with Cares, Inc., Albany, NY 12210 regarding reimbursement for expenses incurred for motel housing and shelter for individuals in the amount of $131,713 for a term commencing October 1, 2020 and ending September 30, 2021, and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the County Attorney is authorized to approve said agreement as to form and content, and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the County Legislature is directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the appropriate County Officials.
