DESCRIPTION OF REQUEST: (state briefly why legislative action is requested)
The Department of Mental Health requests permission to renew its contract with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to continue providing Re-Entry Services. The Albany County Reentry Task Force assists individuals who are being released to the community from prison who have been identified as having high needs/risk. The program facilitates successful community reintegration with the goal of reducing recidivism and improving long-term outcomes. The program served 150 Albany County residents in 2025. A significant change from the previous contract period is that case management services will be provided in-house by the Department of Mental Health rather than through an external contractor. The total grant award of $411,230 is for the period October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.
