DESCRIPTION OF REQUEST: (state briefly why legislative action is requested)

Local Social Services districts are required to provide temporary shelter for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.  Therefore, authorization is requested to renew a contract with IPH (prev. Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless) to operate the Sheridan Ave 30-bed emergency and transitional shelter for men and women in Albany County experiencing homelessness.

The IPH Sheridan Ave Shelter is equipped with an elevator and handicap access, offers a single room for at-risk individuals (e.g., transgender persons) or others with special needs/disabilities (e.g., mental illness, substance use disorders, developmental disabilities, medical frailty), two 15-bed rooms (one for men/one for women), and provides three meals per day for residents.

During calendar year 2024, 205 residents were served.
