RESOLUTION NO. 509

 

AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING AND IMPLEMENTING THE COUNTY CLIMATE ACTION PLAN

                     By Conservation, Sustainability, and Green Initiatives Committee:

 

                     WHEREAS, The County Executive has requested authorization to accept funding in the amount of $35,000 from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Office of Climate Change to support the development of an Albany County Climate Action Plan, and

 

WHEREAS, By Resolution Nos. 315 for 2021 and 330 for 2022, this Honorable Body previously authorized the County to complete action items that made it eligible to accept this grant funding, and

 

                     WHEREAS, The County Executive has indicated that the proposed Climate Action Plan aims to utilize the groundwork established by the ongoing greenhouse gas emissions inventory, also funded by the Climate Smart Communities Program, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the County's carbon emissions and to develop strategies to mitigate these emissions and enhance sustainability, and

 

                     WHEREAS, The County Executive has indicated that the ultimate objective of the Albany County Climate Action Plan will be to address the root causes and consequences of climate change, promote sustainable practices, and bolster economic, social, and environmental resilience within Albany County, now, therefore, be it,

 

RESOLVED, By the Albany County Legislature that the County Executive is authorized to accept funding in the amount of $35,000 from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Office of Climate Change to support the development of an Albany County Climate Action Plan, and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, That the County Attorney is authorized to approve said agreement as to form and content, and, be it further

 

                     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the County Legislature is directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the appropriate County Officials
