The Crime Victim & Sexual Violence Center (CVSVC) requests authorization to accept a $5,000 grant award from the Joyful Heart Foundation’s Heal the Healers Fund. The grant supports professionals who provide survivor-centered services and recognizes the impact of secondary trauma resulting from ongoing exposure to abuse and violence.
Grant funds will be used to create a Wellness & Recovery Space for CVSVC staff to rest, recharge, and support their overall wellness, resilience, and ability to sustain trauma-informed service delivery. The space will include basic breakroom appliances to support nourishment during long or irregular shifts, comfortable furnishings, calming lighting and décor, sensory and grounding tools, and wellness resources such as yoga mats, journals, art materials, and mindfulness supports. Additional items may include an air purifier, massage chair, calming audio or meditation resources, and fitness or wellness passes. The grant will also provide staff with access to free webinars focused on healing, self-care, and strategies for managing the effects of secondary traumatic stress.
CVSVC staff are the foundation of the services provided to survivors, and their well-being directly impacts the quality, consistency, and compassion of those services. Creating a workplace culture that values self-care, mental health, and professional support is essential to maintaining a healthy and effective workforce. The Wellness & Recovery Space and related wellness resources will provide staff with opportunities to decompress, reduce the effects of secondary traumatic stress, and return to their work feeling more grounded and focused.
By investing in staff wellness and professional support, CVSVC strengthens its ability to retain a resilient workforce and provide consistent, compassionate, and high-quality services to survivors and the Albany County community.
