DESCRIPTION OF REQUEST: (state briefly why legislative action is requested)

The Public Defender’s Office requests authorization for a one-year, no cost extension to the Fourth Counsel at First Appearance grant contract with the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services. Since it took two years for the County to implement a counsel at first appearance program after receiving the first Counsel at First Appearance grant, an extension to the grant term is needed to fully utilize the funds provided.
