DESCRIPTION OF REQUEST: (state briefly why legislative action is requested)

The Public Defender’s Office requests authorization to amend its 2025 budget to utilize funds made available through the one-year extension to the Third Counsel at First Appearance grant contract with the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services. The budget amendments appropriate $247,340 of state-provided funds to increase compensation in 2025 for personnel involved in providing attorney representation at all first arraignments within Albany County.
