DESCRIPTION OF REQUEST: (state briefly why legislative action is requested)

Local Social Service Districts are required to provide emergency/transitional shelter to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Therefore, authorization is requested to enter into an agreement with IPH (Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless) to operate the South Ferry Shelter for individuals unable to secure shelter in other facilities.

South Ferry Shelter provides 30 emergency shelter beds in small occupancy rooms which are more appropriate for homeless individuals with certain mental and/or behavioral health conditions. The Shelter can accommodate a mix of females and males depending on need.

During 2024, 81 clients were served.
