AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH THE NEW YORK STATE DIVISION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES REGARDING THE GUN INVOLVED VIOLENCE ELIMINATION GRANT AND AMENDING THE 2026 PROBATION DEPARTMENT BUDGET

WHEREAS, The Director of the Probation Department has requested authorization to enter into an agreement with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services regarding the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) Initiative in the amount of $393,172 for the term commencing July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027, and
WHEREAS, The Director has indicated that the GIVE Initiative is a partnership between the Probation Department, New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, Albany County District Attorney’s Office, Albany County Sheriff, and City of Albany Police Department and the funding will assist in monitoring individuals sentenced to Probation after being convicted of gun-related crimes, and
WHEREAS, The Director has also indicated an amendment to the 2026 Probation Department Budget is necessary to incorporate a portion of the aforementioned funding, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, By the Albany County Legislature that the County Executive is authorized to enter into an agreement with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services regarding the Gun Involved Violence Elimination Initiative in the amount of $393,172 for the term commencing July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027, and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the 2026 Probation Department Budget is amended as follows:

RESOLVED, That the County Attorney is authorized to approve said agreement as to form and content, and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the County Legislature is directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the appropriate County Officials.
