AUTHORIZING AGREEMENTS WITH CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF THE DIOCESE OF ALBANY REGARDING EMERGENCY AND TRANSITIONAL SHELTER SERVICES

By Social Services Committee, Ms. Chapman, Mr. Ethier, Ms. McLaughlin, Mr. Ricard and Ms. Willingham:

WHEREAS, The Commissioner of the Department of Social Services has requested authorization to enter into an agreement with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany regarding emergency and transitional shelter services at Mercy House in the amount of $702,000 and St. Charles Lwanga Center in the amount of $756,600 for a term commencing July 1, 2022 and ending December 31, 2023, and

WHEREAS, Pursuant to New York State Social Services Law, local social services districts are required to provide emergency and transitional shelter to public assistance-eligible homeless individuals and families, and

WHEREAS, Mercy House is a 19-bed facility which serves women and small families and St. Charles Lwanga Center is a 19-bed facility which serves adult males as both shelters provide three meals a day for residents, and

WHEREAS, The shelters emphasize the provision of a safe, sober environment which assists in addressing the factors that cause an individual to be homeless and in securing permanent housing or appropriate residential placement and the development of an Independent Living Plan, now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, By the Albany County Legislature that the County Executive is authorized to enter into agreements with the following service providers regarding emergency and transitional shelter services for the term commencing July 1, 2022 and ending December 31, 2023, in the amounts indicated:
