AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO AND AN AGREEMENT WITH THE NEW YORK STATE DIVISION OF HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY SERVICES FOR THE EXPLOSIVE DETECTION CANINE TEAM GRANT PROGRAM AND AMENDING THE 2026 SHERIFF'S OFFICE BUDGET

WHEREAS, The Sheriff has requested authorization to submit a grant application to and enter into an agreement with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services regarding the FY2023 Explosive Detection Canine Team Grant Program in an amount of $60,000 for a term commencing April 1, 2026 and ending August 31, 2027, and
WHEREAS, The Sheriff has indicated the grant funding will be used to purchase a canine-ready vehicle equipped with an environmental monitoring system, and
WHEREAS, The Sheriff has also requested a budget amendment to incorporate the aforementioned funding into the 2026 Sheriff’s Office Budget, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, By the Albany County Legislature that the County Executive is authorized to submit a grant application to and enter into an agreement with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services regarding the FY2023 Explosive Detection Canine Team Grant Program in an amount of $60,000 for a term commencing April 1, 2026 and ending August 31, 2027, and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the 2026 Sheriff’s Office Budget is hereby amended as follows:
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the County Attorney is authorized to approve said agreement as to form and content, and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the County Legislature is directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the appropriate County Officials.
