A LOCAL LAW OF THE COUNTY OF ALBANY, NEW YORK, AMENDING THE ALBANY COUNTY CHARTER AND LOCAL LAW NO. 8 FOR 1993 AS AMENDED, FOR THE PURPOSE OF CLARIFYING SALARIES FOR LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

PURSUANT TO SECTIONS 10 AND 33 OF THE MUNICIPAL HOME RULE LAW AND SECTION 2702 OF THE ALBANY COUNTY CHARTER:
BE IT ENACTED by the Legislature of the County of Albany as follows:
SECTION I. Section 204 of the Albany County Charter is hereby amended as follows:
The County Legislature shall have the power to fix the compensation of its members and the leadership positions of Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Majority Leader and Minority Leader, which compensation shall be a stated annual salary to be paid in equal monthly installments by the Commissioner of Management and Budget. The County Legislature may fix the compensation of the County Legislature prior to the next election of such County Legislature. The compensation of the members and legislative leadership positions, after being initially established, shall not be increased nor decreased during the term of office, provided, however, the foregoing prohibition shall not prevent a member that assumes a legislative leadership position during a term of office from receiving the compensation of such position during such term of office, subject to this Charter and applicable laws or rules.
SECTION II. Effective Date.
This Local Law is adopted subject to permissive referendum pursuant to Section 24 of the New York State Municipal Home Rule Law.
