DEDICATING THE COHOES COMMUNITY CENTER IN HONOR OF LEGISLATOR GILBERT F. ETHIER

WHEREAS, Since 1976, this Legislative Body has dedicated various County-owned buildings in honor of exceptional people who have made a lasting impact in Albany County, and
WHEREAS, First elected to the Albany County Legislature in 1979, Gilbert F. Ethier has represented residents of the City of Cohoes for nearly five decades, and
WHEREAS, Gilbert F. Ethier has always fiercely advocated for his community, including by raising money in the 1960’s to help build the original Cohoes Community Center, located at 21 Cayuga Street in the City of Cohoes, and
WHEREAS, After its closure, Legislator Ethier worked tirelessly with County officials to bring about the acquisition and restoration of the Cohoes Community Center, providing numerous programs and benefits not only to residents of Cohoes but the surrounding areas as well, and
WHEREAS, The Albany County Legislature wishes to recognize the contributions of Legislator Gilbert F. Ethier by dedicating the former Cohoes community center in his honor, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, By the Albany County Legislature that the former Cohoes community center shall henceforth be known as the “Gil Ethier Albany County Athletic and Community Center”, and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the County Legislature is directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the appropriate County Officials.
