REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES TO CONDUCT AN ECONOMIC IMPACT STUDY REGARDING THE PLACEMENT OF PUBLIC-USE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGERS AT ALL COUNTY PROPERTIES, INCLUDING VACANT PARCELS

WHEREAS, Resolution No. 374 for 2024, adopted by the Albany County Legislature on July 8th, 2024, requested a site feasibility study of the placement of public use electric vehicle charging stations on various County properties, and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 374 of 2024 spoke primarily to the need of Albany County to survey what County properties, if any, would be suitable for hosting public use electric vehicle charging stations without consideration for the long-term fiscal sustainability of public use charging stations, specifically with regard to the installation, maintenance, and continued use of such stations, and
WHEREAS, While creating incentives for the adoption of electric vehicles is laudable, additional detail is necessary for the Legislature to properly make a determination regarding the adoption of County-operated electric vehicle charging stations, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Honorable Body requests that the Department of General Services conduct a study on the fiscal sustainability of the installation of public use electric vehicle charging stations on vacant County properties; said study shall examine existing availability of public use chargers near County owned properties, the projected cost of installation of charging stations, the annual maintenance and projected electricity costs associated with such stations, the County funding source(s) which will cover these projected costs, projected revenues generated from fees on charging station usage, and any other issues determined by the Department to be necessary for implementation and long-term sustainability of said stations, and, be it further
