AUTHORIZING A DATA SHARING AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK AT ALBANY FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE ALBANY LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTED DIVERSION INITIATIVE

WHEREAS, The Albany Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) initiative is founded on the principles of harm reduction when treating substance abuse, mental illness, poverty, and homelessness, with a focus on offering support services rather than punishment, and
WHEREAS, The County Executive has requested authorization to enter into a data sharing agreement with the State University of New York at Albany and the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Social Services, the Probation Department, the Office of the Public Defender, and the Office of the Alternate Public Defender, regarding the Albany Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion initiative, and
WHEREAS, This data sharing agreement will allow the University of New York at Albany to evaluate the efficacy and outcomes of LEAD, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, By the Albany County Legislature, that the County Executive is authorized to enter into a data sharing agreement with the State University of New York at Albany and the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Social Services, the Probation Department, the Office of the Public Defender, and the Office of the Alternate Public Defender, regarding the Albany Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion initiative and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the County Attorney is authorized to approve said agreement as to form and content, and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the County Legislature is directed to forward certified copies of the resolution the appropriate County Officials.
