AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE NEW YORK STATE GOVERNOR’S TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMITTEE REGARDING A TRAFFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTOR

                     By Public Works Committee:

 

                     WHEREAS, The Commissioner of the Department of Public Works has requested authorization to submit a grant application to the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee for a term commencing October 1, 2023 and ending September 30, 2024, and

 

WHEREAS, The Commissioner has indicated that the grant funding will be used to implement traffic safety programs that educate the public on the dangers of drowsy, impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving in order to reduce all types of crashes to include those related to speed, impairment, motorcycles, occupant protection, bicycles, pedestrians, and commercial motor vehicles, and

 

WHEREAS, The Commissioner has also indicated that the grant funding covers approximately 80 percent of the Traffic Safety Instructor’s salary, conference attendance, brochures, and bicycle safety equipment, now, therefore, be it

 

                     RESOLVED, By the Albany County Legislature that the County Executive is authorized to submit a grant application to the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee for a term commencing October 1, 2023 and ending September 30, 2024, and, be it further

 

                     RESOLVED, That the County Attorney is authorized to approve said grant application as to form and content, and, be it further

 

                     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the County Legislature is directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the appropriate County Officials.
